Our Visit To The Mayor

Hello people of earth that own computers! Believe it or not, yesterday, March 1st, 2011, a group of U.P.A. students that are attending a field trip to Washington D.C. and I visited Mayor Jean Quan in her office at City Hall. It was very surreal and I was very nervous. At the beginning of the meeting, she gave us each a gold pin of the Oakland tree for us to wear. I think it was a kind gesture of her. Then we were talking to her about the social issues in this world that are important to us, and we also asked her questions. She answered them very thoughtfully and gave her opinion on all of the topics we shared with her. She also shared with us all her ideas on what she planned to do as Mayor, to make our beautiful city of Oakland a better place to live in and with less violence. To me all of her ideas seem good and I felt that if she does everything she plans on doing, this city will be better. After talking to her about our issues we went to City Council Chambers, where we got to see where all the different people sit and we got to talk through the microphone! It was pretty awesome! After that, she showed us her main office and told us a little bit about the history of the building. I learned that City Hall was built after the San Francisco earthquake. We took a few pictures with her, and that was sadly the end of our visit. Not only was our visit serious, it was also fun because after our Vice Principal, Mr.Guikema, bought us lunch at Panda Express where we ate delicious food, and we all got to read our fortunes! Well, that was the end of our day. We went back to UPA, where we told all of our classmates about our trip!
